Vtg 1980s USSR Russian Beriozka Wooden Folk Art Dolls Kumushki Samovar Set Of 3
Up for auction is a beautiful, highly collectible 3-piece set of authentic vintage Soviet-era Russian folk art wooden figurines. These stylized standalone statues feature a unique combination of lathe-turned solid wood, vibrant hand-painted aniline dyes, and intricate wood-burning (pyrography) detailing.
Unlike traditional nesting dolls, these are solid, standalone artistic figures that were manufactured by the famous Moscow Factory "Souvenirs" (Московская фабрика "Сувениры") located on Krasnobogatyrskaya Street. They are exceptional examples of mid-century/late Soviet galanteria and souvenir design, frequently sold to foreign tourists in specialized hard-currency Beriozka shops.
Set Includes:
-
"Girl with a Samovar" (Девушка с Самоваром): The tallest figure (1980). Features intricate wood-burned floral and geometric patterns on her apron and a hand-turned wooden samovar. Retains both its original factory paper label (Article С-МГ-558, ST RSFSR 565-71) and its blue/white English "BERIOZKA" export sticker indicating a price of 1.67 Rubles.
-
"Kumushki" / Gossipers (Кумушки): The center figure (1981). Dressed in a vividly colorful striped skirt and patterned pink headdress. Retains its original factory paper label (Article С-МГ-705, ST RSFSR 565-71) showing the retail price of 2 Rubles 45 Kopecks and its official "OTK 10" quality control stamp.
-
Traditional Village Girl: The right figure. Dressed in a dark headscarf (platok) and a multicolored striped skirt, featuring a hand-inked inventory or production stamp "242" directly on the base.
Condition Report:
Excellent vintage condition! The figurines showcase gorgeous natural wood grain and exceptionally bright, crisp paint colors. There are no chips or cracks in the wood. Crucially, two of the pieces retain their original paper factory tags and export stickers, which is quite rare for items of this age.
