New Wharf Pottery-Burslem Staffordshire, England. Flow Blue "Monmouth" Pattern Semi-Porcelain 14" Wide Platter
New Wharf Pottery was est around 1878 by the Wood family and became Wood & Son in 1894. This specific platter was produced approximately between the years 1891 - 1894. The inclusion of "ENGLAND" on the backstamp indicates manufacture after 1891 to comply w/ the US McKinley Tariff Act. The Staffordshire Knot or the pretzel style rope symbol is a common regional emblem for potters in that area. This platter is 14" W and is flow blue design characterized by a deliberate blurring of the blue cobalt pigment into the white glaze during firing. This has an intricate cobalt blue floral motif along a scalloped edge. Within the motif it is also embossed. It is an absolute beauty and has slight crazing. However, there are no chips or cracks. It measures approx 14" W, 1 1/5" High (it is a shallow bowl like platter), 10 1/4" deep, 2 1/2 Lbs. this will ship alone.
