1933-1940 Celluloid or Galalith Fur Stole, Lapel, Or Hat Clip
The floral carving is a celluloid or early molded plastic fur clip, dating from the mid‑1930s to early 1940s. The patent number stamped on the back, U.S. Patent 1852166, was issued in 1932 to Louis Châtelain for a spring‑loaded double‑prong clip mechanism. That patent was widely licensed to jewelry makers such as Coro, Lisner, and Florenza, so the hardware itself doesn’t identify the maker but does confirm the era. Material: The translucent, peach‑to‑green gradient and waxy sheen are typical of celluloid or galalith, not Bakelite. Function: The patented clip mechanism allowed the piece to grip fabric securely without piercing it, used on fur stoles, lapels, or hats.
