Vintage Eckels Studio Pottery Owl Figurine – Mid Century Modern Signed Wisconsin Art Stoneware 7.25” T x 3.75” L x 4.5” W
A beautiful piece of mid-century, highly collectible and exceptionally rare vintage stoneware owl sculpture by the renowned American ceramicist Robert "Bob" Eckels. Founded in 1960 in Bayfield, Wisconsin, Eckels Pottery is celebrated as the state's oldest continuously operating studio pottery. While the studio is famous for its functional kitchenware, hand-sculpted animal figures like this owl are incredibly scarce and rarely appear on the secondary market. This substantial, heavy piece perfectly captures the rustic, organic essence of the 1970s Midwestern studio craft movement. It features a beautifully stylized form with abstract, sgraffito-carved details accenting the large eye surround. The piece is finished in a magnificent multi-toned flowing drip glaze, blending earthy tones of muted sage green, warm tan, and dark iron-brown.A magnificent crossover piece perfect for serious studio pottery archives or as a standout statement in a Mid-Century Modern, Brutalist, or bohemian interior design collection. Circa 1960s / 1970s
