"Care To Wire The Funds You Mentioned?" 1925 Handwritten Letter Ephemera From A Concerned & Proud Mother (Kansas)
ABOUT: FASCINATING. I spent way too much time researching these people trying to figure out the relationship between Margaret McDonald and Eugene "Gene" McDonald--both of which were wife & husband, but this letter makes me feel like there is more complexity to their relationship; perhaps a separation.
Alas, the letter is written from Margaret to her husband Gene in 1925. It concerns their daughter Pauline starting university soon ("She would like to go to KU"), but her path has been held up as she's been in the hospital for days.
I was able to confirm the existence of all three in Girard, Kansas, with Pauline spending the last of her years in Phoenix, Arizona (which explains how I came upon this letter). Why Gene was situated in Chicago, Illinois at the time, I am unsure. He passed away the following year, 1926. A few screenshots of my findings are included in this listing.
CONDITION: Envelope is tattered with a hole, but the letter has stood up very well. It takes some focus to transcribe the hurried scribblings of Mrs. McDonald, but once you get it, you remember it. :-)
