Cloisonné is an ancient decorative art technique, most commonly associated with Chinese and Japanese metalwork, where intricate designs are created by soldering thin metal strips (cloisons) to a metal base, filling the spaces with enamel paste, and then firing and polishing the piece. This technique allows for vibrant colors and detailed patterns, often depicting floral motifs, mythical creatures, or geometric designs. Chinese cloisonné has a rich history, with its peak production occurring during the Ming and Qing dynasties. These vases were often used as decorative objects or for holding flowers, and their craftsmanship reflects the artistic and cultural values of the time. The mid-20th century saw a resurgence in cloisonné production, with many pieces made for export, often featuring traditional designs with a slightly more modern aesthetic. 4” Flaw on side.
