This era saw numerous German manufacturers producing highly decorative ceramics characterized by bold colors, unusual shapes, and experimental glazes. These pieces were often designed as decorative items rather than functional tableware, reflecting a post-war desire for vibrant and expressive home decor. Scheurich, one of the most prolific manufacturers, is well-known for its wide range of "fat lava" vases and jugs, often featuring model numbers like the "209-18" seen in the listings. The distinctive glazes, with their thick, molten appearance and dramatic color shifts, were achieved through complex firing processes. These vases are now highly sought after by collectors of mid-century modern and retro design.
