#0234 Fenton blue opalescent hobnail glass basket with ruffled edge and bamboo handle. 6” x 4.5”
No chips or cracks Fenton Art Glass Company, founded in 1905, became one of the most recognized American glass manufacturers, known for its innovative colors and decorative techniques. The hobnail pattern, characterized by its raised, rounded bumps, was a popular design element that Fenton frequently employed, particularly in their opalescent glass lines. This technique involves adding bone ash or feldspar to the glass mixture, creating a milky, iridescent effect that is most pronounced at the edges and raised areas. This particular basket, with its blue opalescent hobnail design and ruffled piecrust rim, is a classic example of Fenton's output from the mid-20th century. The clear applied handle, often referred to as a "bamboo" handle due to its segmented appearance, adds a contrasting element and further enhances the basket's decorative appeal. Such pieces were commonly used as decorative accents or for holding small items, and they remain highly sought after by collectors.
