#0006 A mid-century Lucite paperweight shaped like a realistic peach with a brown stem.
3”x4” No chips or cracks. Lucite, a brand of acrylic resin developed by DuPont in the 1930s, became immensely popular in the mid-20th century for its clarity, durability, and versatility. It was widely used in the creation of decorative objects, jewelry, furniture, and, notably, paperweights. Many Lucite paperweights were designed to encapsulate various items, from flowers and insects to abstract shapes and realistic fruit replicas. These paperweights were particularly fashionable during the 1950s and 1960s, often found in homes and offices as functional art pieces. The ability to embed objects within the clear acrylic created a sense of depth and preserved them for display. Peach-shaped paperweights, like this one, were common decorative motifs, reflecting a popular aesthetic of the era.
