Wayne Bates is an amazing artist! This pottery plate is hard porcelain with a colored sgrafitto design; it is like nothing you have ever seen before! 14" in diameter. Signed by Bates on the back . Mint condition. There is a sharpie marker on the back, see photos. Wayne Bates is best known for functional wheel thrown porcelain bowls, plates, platters, and vases, fired in mid-range oxidation. The pots are sprayed or brushed with engobes. Often the surface techniques include carved in patterns reflecting simple geometry. Bates’ work is influenced by Mimbres pottery.
