Vtg. Gray's Pottery (England), Purple/Pink Splashed Luster Jug, "Dicken's Days"
This beautiful vintage jug/creamer from Gray's Pottery in England featuring their "Dicken's Days" pattern (A8285) is an excellent example of their Splashed Lustreware. It is a great example of mid-century lustreware! The Gray's Pottery called this style "Splashed", but it has come to be called Mottled or Splatter Lustreware as well. Comprised of pink and purple splatters on copperware, it has a unique appeal. Crafted in Stoke-on-Trent, England in 1948 (based on the design date and backstamp used), this creamer is 4 inches long, 3.2 inches tall, and 3.2 inches wide. The jug weighs 5.2 ounces and depicts a carriage drawn by four horses. The jug/creamer is in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks or signs of wear. There are some spots imbedded in the porcelain on the inside of the base, likely from the time it was made.
