Vintage Mexican Talavera White & Blue Hand painted Ceramic Plate Signed
This is a hand-painted ceramic plate featuring traditional blue-and-white majolica decoration. The central motif exhibits a stylized four-lobed floral cross with scrolled flourishes set against a dense blue honeycomb patterned field. Signed by the artist Maximo Huerta from the Casa Huerta workshop. These pieces were typically made in the 1980’s.
Originating in Puebla, Mexico, Talavera pottery represents a ceramic tradition introduced by Spanish artisans in the 16th century, which synthesized Spanish, Moorish, Italian, and indigenous techniques. The blue-and-white palette was historically the most prestigious due to the high cost of imported cobalt oxide pigment. Today, genuine Puebla Talavera is protected by a Denomination of Origin and remains widely collected for its bold folk art aesthetics and rich artisanal history
