#4132 Vintage cloisonné enamel floral decorated box.

3”x4” no chips or cracks. Cloisonné, a technique of metalwork and enameling, involves creating intricate designs by soldering metal strips or wires to a metal surface, forming compartments that are then filled with enamel paste. This technique originated in the Near East and was later adopted and refined in China, becoming particularly popular during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Chinese cloisonné is renowned for its vibrant colors, detailed patterns, and exquisite craftsmanship, often featuring floral motifs, mythical creatures, and geometric designs. These decorative boxes, often used for storing jewelry, snuff, or other small personal items, were highly prized for their artistry and were produced for both imperial use and export. The late 19th and early 20th centuries saw a surge in the production of cloisonné items for Western markets, leading to a wide variety of styles and quality levels. The specific floral patterns and color palettes can often help in dating and attributing these pieces to particular periods or workshops.
