Signed, MCM California Based Artists: Higgins Glass Studio fused art glass plate and bowl set. 12” Plate, 8” Bowl

Michael and Frances Higgins were pioneers in fused glass art, establishing their studio in California in the mid-20th century. They are renowned for their innovative techniques and distinctive mid-century modern aesthetic, often incorporating bold colors and organic, atomic-inspired designs into their functional art pieces. Their work gained significant popularity during the atomic age and continues to be highly sought after by collectors today.

Their signature style often features layered glass, fused at high temperatures to create unique textures and patterns. The "thistledown" or "amoeba" motif, characterized by its delicate, branching white forms radiating from a central point, is one of their most recognizable designs. These pieces, whether bowls, plates, or platters, are celebrated for their artistic merit and their ability to add a touch of mid-century elegance to any space.
