Scottish Clyde Pottery Pitcher
This is a mid-19th-century Scottish Clyde Pottery wash jug with an Oriental or Athenian pattern. It is a large pitcher, with a floral transferware design featuring a mountain landscape and a small bird drinking water. The jug likely dates to around the 1850s and was possibly made by Clyde Pottery for their Athenian range. Clyde Pottery jugs were a popular item for the company, which operated from 1862-1900. The pattern is a form of chinoiserie decoration, which was popular on pottery during this period.
