Very good condition, light surface wear Quote from Minnie Louise Haskins' 1908 poem, "The Gate of the Year". King George VI famously quoted these precise lines during his 1939 Christmas broadcast to comfort the British public at the onset of World War II: “I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: 'Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.'
