Nodaway Valley National Bank Newfoundland Dog Head Bank Building Blank Check Duo 1920s
Excellent antique condition! The illustration on the left is a classic "Dog Head Litho" common on financial ephemera from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. While it may resemble a bear at a glance, it is identified in collector circles as a Newfoundland dog. This bank is a real historical institution; notably, it is often mentioned in local history because the infamous 1912 Villisca Axe Murders occurred in the same town, and various prominent residents of the era were associated with the bank. The Nodaway Valley National Bank of Villisca is notable for its small issuance—only 1,174 total notes were ever reported for this charter, making its documents relatively scarce compared to larger national banks.
