Little Nemo in Slumberland by Winsor McCay 1945 - WHIMSICAL, ART NOUVEAU Comic Strip c.1900s
ABOUT: As noted by the publisher, the comic strips featured hail from the period between 1905 and 1911 when they were part of the weekly issue of The New York Herald. Each depict a 7-year-old "Nemo having fantastic dreams that were interrupted by his awakening in the final panel. The strip is considered McCay's masterpiece for its experiments with the form of the comics page, its use of color and perspective, its timing and pacing, the size and shape of its panels, and its architectural and other details" (source: Wikipedia).
Note that these works have problematic racial and caricature stereotypes, common of its time, throughout. Most notably reflected in the character Impie, who joins Nemo and Flip in their adventures in Slumberland.
CONDITION: For a 1945 paperback printing, this is in fabulous condition. Clean pages, no tears, front & back cover in great shape, as well as the staple binding.
