LILY PAD Vandermark Art Glass Hand Blown Aquamarine Bowl, Signed, VERY RARE!!
This very RARE and very beautiful aquamarine 'Lily Pad' bowl from Vandermark is a stunning piece of hand-blown art glass. The bowl is signed by the artist, Jerry Vandermark, (of Vandermark-Merrit Glass Studios) Crafted in the United States, the bowl is made of high-quality glass material that is both durable and elegant. This bowl was made PRIOR to Vandermark teaming with Merrit to purchase the glass studio, in 1980, dating this bowl to the 1960s-1970s. It is a wonderful replica of the much sought after, circa 1833-42 Lily Pad bowl by South Jersey glass house, Redford Glass Works. 'The bowl features superimposed “lily pad” decoration, a motif adopted by glassmakers primarily in New Jersey and New York State window and bottle factories. To create it, the maker would add a gather of glass and pull it into a scroll-like shape terminating in a circular disk, reminiscent of the foliage of a water lily.' -From The Met. It was even done in the same technique and the same aquamarine color as the Redford Glass Work's original version. This is NOT the later replicas made for MOMA, which are clearly stamped with the MOMA mark. This bowl is indeed signed, 'Vandermark' on the bottom of the base. There is a rough pontil scar on the bottom of the base as well. It measures: 9.25" diameter. 4.5" high. It is in great condition with no issues seen!! Please see all pics, as they are part of the description.
