Late 20th Century Anca Podaru Ama Romanian Copper Overlay Art Glass Nouveau Vase

A relative newcomer to glass, Anca was a set designer and animated film director for many years before discovering her passion and talent for creating beautiful decorative glass. Born in 1949 in Corabia, a picturesque little town in southern Romania on the banks of the Danube, Anca moved to Bucharest as a baby and still lives and works in the house where she grew up. She has had passion for art for as long as she can remember and began formal study as a child. She went on to attend the prestigious Bucharest Academy of Fine Arts, specializing in set design and graduating in 1976.Today Anca and her (former engineer) husband Costi, together with their small team of talented artists, are proud to bring you the AMA Art Glass Collection. They continually strive to produce artistic works of the highest quality that will provide you with many years of enjoyment. The AMA Art Glass Collection is characterized by a complex and labor-intensive process that begins with colorful free-form mouth-blown opaque glass. Each piece is hand-painted with Anca’s original nature-inspired designs, which are then overlaid with copper. Subsequent layers are then added to the copper and the final touch is a beautiful iridescent patina. The process, although requiring adherence to strict technical norms, nevertheless has a large component that cannot be controlled entirely. The result is a wonderful variety of shapes, colors and finishes, no two of which are ever exactly alike. Each piece is signed with the artist’s “AMA” trademark.
