I did a bit of research. Sao Pedro do Corval, Alentejo, Portugal is a pottery haven where potters will hand make their wares while speaking to visitors. There are more than 20 potteries in this one parish location making the biggest concentration of handmade pottery in Portugal. They say it's due to the unique clay that has been utilized for centuries in every day housewares. This particular platter is large, over 12" in diameter, and heavy, weighing over 3 pounds. It's a beautiful piece of handmade pottery that will add so much warmth to your space. Thanks for looking!
