Jumping Pound Ranch Hands Archival Photograph c.1880s Calgary, AB, Canada Glenbow Archives 8x10"
ABOUT: This photograph is a reprint from the records of Glenbow Archives, as stamped on the back. I picked it up at an estate sale in Sun City, Arizona 1 or 2 years ago. According to the notes on the back, this photograph is of the Kenna Homestead in 1910.
However, per Glenbow Archives, this is the W.W. Stuart Ranch & the photograph was taken notably earlier around 1887-89; W.W. Stuart is bottom row, second from the left. Back row, first on the left is John Bateman, who ultimately took over the ranch some time down the line. I did not find any archival information on any Kennas in my search. In fact, the link above lists entirely different names, contrary to those written on the back. And curiously, the man in the foreground without his hat on his head is thoroughly documented as Stanley James, by his grandson, Robert Nurden. However, the record by Glenbow Archives does not appear to support this claim either. (Nevertheless, very fascinating research on the part of Mr. Nurden, should you look into it!)
Clearly, this snapshot in time is comprised of many people of whose potential descendants have taken a great interest in uncovering their link to these storied men of Calgary's history.
CONDITION: Very Good Preowned - subtle signs of wear or use. Print has held up very nicely in its photo folder.
Measurements are approximate: photo is 8 x 10 inches
