The Artist: Jason Snelson holds a Master's degree in ceramics. He studied at the University of North Texas (UNT) and later became an artist-in-residence at the St. Pete Clay Co. in Florida before relocating his practice to Flagstaff, Arizona.

Design Inspiration: Having spent his youth surfing along the Gulf Coast of Texas, Snelson integrates ocean imagery directly into his wheel-thrown stoneware. The highly stylized, rhythmic clay alterations mimic the texture of ocean waves, while the hand-sculpted, multi-toned applied seashells emphasize the coastal, marine theme.

Distinctive Elements: Aside from his fluid script signature, his signature pieces are immediately recognizable by their unglazed, roughly chiseled wedge notch cutouts along the outer edge of the flared footing.
