Hand-Carved "Cleveland Blue" Industrial Slag Owl – Artisan Folk Art
Discover a unique piece of Ohio’s industrial history. This hand-carved owl figurine is crafted from Opaque Blue Slag, a glass-like mineral byproduct salvaged from historic foundry sites near Cleveland, Ohio. Unlike mass-produced resin, this piece has the heavy, cold feel of natural stone and features the fascinating "flow banding" unique to industrial smelting. Key Features: * Material: Authentic Industrial Iron Slag (Opaque). * Color: Deep cobalt blue with a rare, subtle greenish-teal swirl on the shoulder—a hallmark of authentic molten mineral mixing. * Artisanship: Hand-carved with a rugged, textured finish. The deep recesses have been professionally "antiqued" with a dark patina to highlight the feather details and soulful expression. * Provenance: Sourced near Cleveland, OH—home to the historic foundries of the American Steel Belt. * Authenticity: This piece has been thermally tested. It is not plastic, resin, or molded glass. It is a genuine silicate/mineral composite with the weight and presence of stone. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The natural "pitting" on the surface is a result of trapped gas bubbles during the original smelting process, adding to its raw, Brutalist charm. 2.5” tall x 2.75” L x 2-1/8”D Texture: the surface is"naturally pitted." the small holes are gas vesicles from the original smelting process, not damage. The Scratch: the base has "authentic wear and light scratches" that confirms the deep blue color is consistent throughout the material. The Finish: Note: the "original black antiquing remains in the crevices" to highlight the carving.
