French Ivory Celluloid Hair Receiver w Cover (early 1900s) Antique (KK)
Approx 4.5” across x 2.5” tall. Very good condition; no issues. Last photo shows the stamp on bottom, which often says “French Ivory” but this has worn and also…has a misspelling? I don’t know. Confusing.
*celluloid hair receivers were popular from the Victorian era to the early 1900s, to hold (receive) loose hair from hairbrushes. The collected hair was then used for various purposes, such as “hair rats” which were stuffed bags or woven hairpieces intended to add volume to hairstyles. The hair was also used to create hair jewelry as well as stuff pincushions & cushions.
