Brass Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College VAMC Virginia Tech Button
Brass button with the initials VAMC and a scene of bushel of wheat and farm implements. Has a shank back. The Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College (VAMC) was founded in 1872 in Blacksburg, VA. It later morphed and changed names and turned into the school we know as Virginia Tech. This button is stamped on the back with manufacturer "Scovile MFG. Waterbury. From the Smithsonian: Scovill was established in 1802 as a button manufacturer that is still in business today. Scovill is an important example of early American industrial manufacturing that adapted armory machines to mass-produce a variety of consumer goods including buttons, daguerreotype mats, medals, coins, and tokens.
