Antique Limoge Oyster Plate Wright Tyndale Van Roden Philadelphia Lavender A1179

Beautiful antique French porcelain oyster plate made for Wright, Tyndale & Van Roden, the prominent Philadelphia luxury china importer and retailer. This unusual octagonal plate features five deeply molded oyster wells surrounding a central round sauce or lemon well.

The wells are finished in a delicate pale celadon tone with soft lavender shading, outlined in dark brown and surrounded by hand-painted green sea-grass decoration. The pale lavender crackle-style ground and fine gilt edging give the plate a particularly elegant late Victorian appearance.

The underside bears the period circular retailer/importer mark “Wright, Tyndale & Van Roden / Importers / Philadelphia.” No separate factory maker’s mark is visible. Comparable antique Limoges oyster plates bearing the Wright, Tyndale & Van Roden mark are documented, including examples associated with important Limoges manufacturers.
