This is a lovely antique porcelain tea strainer, beautifully hand-painted with multicolored florals, delicate gilt accents, and a scalloped rim finished in a rich teal-green border. Tea strainers like this were designed to sit directly over the rim of a teacup, allowing loose tea leaves to be poured through while catching the leaves—both practical and decorative. Pieces of this style were popular in the late Victorian through early Art Deco period, often imported from Japan or Europe for the American market.
