Antique Cast Metal Pig Boar Pen Wipe. Nib Cleaner. Cold Painted. Late 19th Early 20th Century. Brush Is In Bad Condition
Let me know if you have any questions. Please see all photos for details. There are some paint chips due to age. Also the base of the bristles is crumbling so the bristles are loose in the hole. Here is some historical information: Before modern ballpoint pens, writers used metal dip pens and early fountain pens. This brush was designed to clean wet ink or scrape away dried ink flakes from delicate pen nibs. typically crafted from cold-painted metal or spelter (and sometimes Viennese bronze or brass) with hand-painted details. The stiff, coarse material protruding from the pig's back consists of natural boar bristle or horsehair. Pigs and wild boars were highly popular novelty themes for desk and sewing accessories during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The pig is holding an acorn in its mouth
