Antique Austrian Jeweled Brass Vanity Box Trinket Casket, Hinged Mirror Lid C. 1900

4.75”x3.75”. Offered for sale is a beautiful antique jeweled metal vanity box, dating to the late 19th–early 20th century (circa 1895–1915). This richly decorated piece is believed to originate from Austria or the Austro-Hungarian Empire, known for producing ornate decorative metalwork during the Victorian and early Edwardian periods. The box features cast brass or gilt spelter construction with repeating classical shell motifs around the sides and an elaborate domed lid adorned with applied glass cabochons, faceted rhinestones, and hand-applied enamel accents in floral and crescent motifs, most largely in tact. The vanity box sits on three ornate feet. The interior of the lid retains its original beveled glass mirror, a desirable feature rarely found intact. The lid is connected by a hinge and closes securely. Inside is a shallow area to hold jewelry, cosmetic poufs, etc. *NOTE* Lid is missing some stones. Brass, along with patina, has some oxidation spots. The bottom rim (looking underneath) has a small dent or curve in the original curve of the box, but isn’t too noticeable.
