Antique 19th C. Inlaid Mixed Wood Marquetry Valet Box w/ Dividers READ

9.5"x6"x2.75". Beautiful mid to late 19th century, mixed wood marquetry box with an intricate Chevron design. I believe it is Sorrento Ware, from Italy, but I’m not entirely sure. The inlaid wood design can also be seen on the sides & feet of the box - thin strips of light toned wood have been added to create more visual interest and sense of elegance. Adding to this elevated look are four flared, oversized feet. The inside has fixed wooden dividers (4 compartments) for storage. When lid is opened, it sits all the way back, does not stay upright. Unlike most surviving boxes of this era, this piece retains its original brass lid alignment pin, allowing the lid to close securely and flush with the base. NOTE

• lid has a few areas that are “cloudy” and also an area that looks like maybe a substance had once been on it. Please see photos. It may be possible to minimize those spots with a wax appropriate for delicate wood pieces.
