#0424 Very UV reactive Stevens & Williams rigaree glass pitcher with ruffled rim.
5” no chips or cracks! Immaculate. Victorian era glassmaking was characterized by elaborate decorative techniques and the use of new materials and colors. Rigaree, a decorative applied glass element, was particularly popular during this period, adding texture and visual interest to vases, pitchers, and other tableware. The use of uranium in glass, which imparts a subtle green glow under UV light and was popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, also contributed to the era's collectible glass items. Stevens & Williams was a prominent British glass manufacturer known for its high-quality decorative glass, including pieces made with uranium oxide. Their output often featured intricate applied decorations and vibrant colors, making their pieces highly sought after by collectors. This pitcher, with its ruffled rim and rigaree, is a representative example of the aesthetic and technical achievements of the company during the Victorian era, especially with its confirmed UV reactivity.
