Glass manufacturers in the United States, most notably the Wheaton Glass Company located in Millville, New Jersey, produced decorative novelty bottles and miniature reproductions during the mid to late twentieth century. These flasks were created to mimic nineteenth-century medicine and tonic containers, tapping into a widespread public interest in historical Americana and antique bottle collecting. Workers pressed molten glass into detailed metal moulds to form whimsical shapes such as animals, historical figures, and comical characters.

Buyers used these colourful miniature flasks as decorative ornaments on shelves, in cabinets, or as novelty containers for small keepsakes. Over time, the commercial production of novelty reproduction bottles slowed down as manufacturing shifts moved overseas and domestic interest in mass-produced commemorative glass declined. Eventually, these novelty flasks found a permanent home in the secondary market among collectors of vintage advertising and decorative glassware.
