Antique Chinese Export Celadon Crackle Glaze Vanity Jars With Heavy Mixed-Metal & Shell Lids - A Pair
An exquisite, highly unique pair of antique Chinese export vanity dresser jars dating from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic period (circa 1900–1920s). Masterfully marrying traditional ceramic artistry with fine silver craft, these low-slung, compressed globular vessels were originally formed as classic tripod censers featuring unglazed "iron-foot" stub bases and an elegant, thick celadon seafoam-green glaze with heavy, deliberate "Ge ware" style crackle-glaze crazing. The jars have been spectacularly adapted for Western vanity use with substantial, custom hand-fashioned heavy silver/mixed-metal lidded tops. The left vessel features an exceptional, tapered pedestal-style stopper plug with hand-cut fluted vertical ridges and delicate molded double-loop shoulder handles. The companion jar is finished with a low-profile, fluted dome lid. Both lids are beautifully inset with luminous, genuine mother-of-pearl cabochon medallions on top.Displaying an authentic, unpolished aged dark patina with wonderful tarnish gradients and fine linear hand-etched bench marks on the lids' interiors, this rare matched set exudes sophisticated historic charm and offers a gorgeous decorative accent for a luxury bedroom, powder room, or vanity display.
