#0003 An iridescent art glass egg paperweight with pulled feather design on a metal stand.
6” no chips or cracks Possibly van der mark 1980s
Studio glass artists in America and Europe created iridescent eggs and paperweights during the late twentieth century revival of traditional glassblowing techniques. These decorative pieces were crafted to showcase complex optical effects, vibrant colours and skilled manipulation of molten glass on the gathering iron. Makers achieved these shimmering metallic sheens by spraying metallic salts onto the hot glass surface during the forming process.
Collectors and interior decorators displayed these ornamental eggs on desks, bookshelves and mantelpieces as decorative accents. They were typically produced in limited studio runs rather than large factory lines, making each piece unique due to slight variations in the pulled feather patterns. Over time, the production of such studio art glass shifted towards independent artist workshops and smaller collaborative glasshouses.
