Vintage Seahorse Cobalt Cut To Clear, Faceted Crystal Paperweight, Webb Corbett~Royal Doulton
"Finest English Full Lead Crystal". Great cond. Orig. label. Approx. 3.25" dia. 1.75" tall.
Webb Corbett (Founded 1897)Origins: In 1897, Thomas Ernest Webb and Charles Walter Herbert Webb (grandsons of Thomas Webb I) left the family firm of Thomas Webb & Sons to start an independent glassmaking venture. They partnered with glassmaker George Harry Corbett. The Factory: The trio took over the historic White House Glass Works in Wordsley, right near Stourbridge. Because the founders had a background with the original Thomas Webb factory, this is where the association lies.Evolution & Closure: Originally operating as Thomas Webb and Corbett Ltd., the name was shortened to Webb Corbett Ltd. in the 1930s. After a fire at the White House site in 1914, the firm relocated to Coalbournhill Glassworks. In 1969, the company was absorbed into the Royal Doulton Group, and the factory was officially closed in 2000.- 1 views
