Vintage Order of Eastern Star Masonic Medal Bar Pin, Ribbon, & Star
This is a medal from the Order of the Eastern Star (OES), a Masonic organization affiliated with Freemasonry. The pin bar is goldplated metal and bears the initials O.E.S. The ribbon is attached and has faded blue, yellow, white, green and red stripes. Hanging from the ribbon is an enameled 5 pointed star bearing the symbols of Free Masonry and exhibiting the same colors as the ribbon. The emblem of the crossed batons in the center of the star indicates that this was an officers badge which would have been worn by the Marshal the person who would have led all processions and drills. This individual would have also have carried the flag during the flag presentation. (Thank you to Robins Nest Resale for this info.)❤️ A Marshall’s badge would have been put on a piece of leather so it could be put in the pocket of the jacket and the medal hung over the front of the pocket. It shows evidence of wear consistent with use and age and it has remnants of glue on reverse side where it was likely adhered to leather. This accounts for the residue on the reverse side of medal. Medal in its entirety measures 5” in length. This order was founded in 1850 by Dr. Robert Morris. Based on the teachings of the Bible, emphasizing charity, truth, and loving-kindness. Charitable work, community service, and fraternal fellowship. The five-pointed star, represents the Star of Bethlehem. The colors of the ribbon correspond with the colors of the star which each signify a specific heroine from the Bible.
