Vintage Blenko Glass Don Sheppard Bear Bookends Pair #836 - 365nm Manganese Glow 4.5” T x 3.5” L x 2.25” W
Offering an authentic, beautifully matched pair of vintage Blenko Glass Sitting Bear Bookends (Model #836), designed by renowned Blenko Design Director Don Sheppard This iconic textured-ice design was first introduced in 1975. This specific pair dates between 1982 and 1999, retaining both original silver foil "Block B" labels located on the back of each bear. Glow & Glass Details: Molded from thick, heavy soda-lime art glass, these bears feature a manganese formulation used to clarify the natural glass batch. As a result, fluoresce a brilliant, vivid neon green under a 365nm UV blacklight. The bear with the sticker on the back of it’s head doesn’t glow as much due to the reflection of the label. They do not react to 395nm light.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, flea bites, or heavy shelf wear. One bear contains a large, fully internal factory air bubble near the base sticker—a classic, hand-poured "birthmark" typical of West Virginia art glass factories.
