Victorian Era Copper Luster Jug
The object in the image is an antique copper lusterware cream jug, likely made in England around the 1830s. Lusterware is made by applying a preparation of metal salts, such as copper, mixed with vinegar, ochre, and clay, to a previously fired and glazed piece of pottery. The copper luster finish is achieved by including gold dust in the final glaze.
