The Snow Goose by Paul Gallico c. 1941. Dust Jacket WW2 Love Story Vintage Book
The Snow Goose by Paul Gallico c. 1941. Hard Cover Book with Dust Jacket Some wear and discoloration to the dust jacket. Interior book is in good shape. Book is inscribed on the fly page 7.25" x 5" The Snow Goose is a simple novella about the regenerative power of friendship and love, set against a backdrop of the horror of war. It tells of the friendship between an artist living a solitary life in an abandoned lighthouse because of his disabilities, a young local girl, Fritha and the snow goose, wounded by gunshot and nursed back to flight, revisiting the lighthouse in its migration for years. The Snow Goose has appeared in many shapes and formats. In 1971, The Snow Goose, directed by Patrick Garland, was broadcast on BBC television featuring Richard Harris and Jenny Agutter. It won a Golden Globe for Best Movie Made for TV, and was nominated for both a BAFTA and an Emmy, with Agutter winning for Outstanding Supporting Actress, and was shown in the US as part of the Hallmark Hall of Fame. The Snow Goose was, in Gallico's words, "a once in a lifetime happening for a writer." The story of The Snow Goose is a variation on the ageless myth of a man whose physical deformity prevents most people from seeing his underlying admirable character.
