Robert Eickholt Handblown Art Glass Jellyfish Paperweight Sculpture Sighted By Artist 2004
A solid clear-glass encasement with an internal jellyfish built from layers of pulled and stacked cane. The bell is opalescent amber-ivory, domed and lobed, with a small circular manubrium detail at its center — the kind of anatomical specificity that separates a practiced maker from a decorator. Below it, a cascade of ribbed tentacles in deep blue, amber, and olive-green trails the full depth of the piece, the filaments rendered in tight striations that shift color depending on the angle and the light source. Scattered controlled bubbles read as the water column itself.
The piece is signed and dated on the frosted base: Robert Eickholt, 2004. Eickholt is a Kentucky-based studio glass artist who has worked in encasement and marine-subject forms for decades, with work that draws on the Pacific Northwest jellyfish tradition while developing a distinctly painterly internal palette. The horizontal oval form — broader than it is tall, with the bell positioned off-center — gives this piece an unusual dynamic: set on its side, the jellyfish appears mid-pulse, trailing into open water.
CONDITION
Excellent. No chips, cracks, or damage. The surface is clean and clear; internal bubbles are intentional to the making, not defects. Base shows fine surface scratches consistent with normal handling of a flat-ground piece.
