Northwood Green Iridescent Carnival Glass "Fine Cut and Roses" Footed Bowl
Carnival glass, also known as iridescent glass, was produced from approximately 1907 to 1925 by various American manufacturers. It was created by applying a metallic salt solution to molten glass, which then produced a shimmering, iridescent surface when fired. This technique gave the glass a distinctive, colorful sheen, often resembling more expensive blown glass or mother-of-pearl. It was typically sold through mail-order catalogs and as premiums at carnivals, hence its name. Northwood, founded by Harry Northwood in 1899, was one of the most prolific and well-regarded manufacturers of carnival glass. The "Fine Cut and Roses" pattern, introduced around 1908, is a popular and recognizable design. This particular piece, in amethyst with its characteristic ruffled edge and applied feet, showcases the intricate mold work and vibrant iridescence.
