“Leon’s Prize” Hardcover Children’s Book, Vintage 1987

The story follows Leon, a cat who is passionate about dancing. Leon's partner (frequently described as his female companion) goes to great lengths for him, dancing in numerous competitions for his birthday even though she doesn't enjoy it as much as he does. Eventually, she becomes exhausted and gets hurt from the constant movement. In a final "loving sacrifice," Leon realizes that his collection of dance prizes is meaningless compared to the well-being of the one he loves, and he gives up the competitions for her.
