Large 1983 carved stone raccoon with inlaid mosaic polished stones by artist Tsonakwa, #1591. 2.15 lbs. Tsonakwa (Gerald Rancourt Jr.) is a renowned Abenaki artist and master storyteller known for creating powerful sculptures, masks, and carvings that blend traditional Abenaki legends. Using stone, antler, bone and wood, he creates powerful masks and sculptures which draw from Native American social and spiritual traditions. with contemporary and ancient techniques. Tsonakwa is often referred to as a "walker in the shadows between worlds," focusing on preserving and representing the old ways and the stories of the Abenaki people. His work is featured in significant collections, including the National Museum of the American Indian (e.g., Otter On Ice II, 1984) and the Quintana Galleries. Condition: No condition issues noted.
