Chiwara, a ritual object used by the Bambara people of Mali. Chiwara is a mythical creature believed to have taught the Bambara how to cultivate crops. These sculptures are used in initiation societies and associated with agricultural rituals. The Chiwara often depicts an antelope, with detailed carvings and tribal-style patterns.
