Camp Coffee Mug, Woods England, Coffee and Chicory Essence, Coffee Mug, Wood and Sons, Retro Ads, 1970s, Advertising Ware, England Pair Camp Coffee Mugs, Woods England, Coffee and Chicory Essence Retro 1970s Made in England This vintage mug features old advertisements for Camp Coffee and Chicory Essence with their slogan "Ready...Aye Ready" Imprinted on bottom "Wood's England" as well as being stamped "Made expressly for Dominion Stores Ltd by Wood and Sons England" Good condition; no chips, cracks, crazing Approx size: 3 inches tall; 3 inches in diameter (excluding handle) Camp Coffee was created in 1885 by Campbell Paterson (1851-1927) of R. Paterson & Son in Glasgow. The company specialised in cordials, and their best-selling product was a raspberry cordial often added to whisky or brandy to create a drink known as "Cuddle-me-Dearie". The coffee essence was developed by Campbell Paterson for domestic use, to avoid the complex and then expensive equipment required for coffee drinking. Originally the logo Camp echoed its ease of use in any surroundings and a tent was featured on its label. By the 1980s the word Camp had taken on a different meaning colloquially and this may have even added to its popularity and sales. Bottle photo for information but not included with the two mugs.
