These baskets were frequently used as wedding gifts or centerpieces, hence the term "wedding basket" or "bride's basket." Hand-painting floral designs on glass was a common decorative technique during this period, adding a personalized and artistic touch to the pieces. The combination of vibrant glass colors, delicate painting, and ornate metalwork, often silver-plated, made these baskets highly sought after. Many were produced in the United States and Europe, reflecting the era's aesthetic sensibilities and craftsmanship.
