#0080 An Eye of the Storm art glass paperweight by Caithness Glass 27-750 Signed

3” x 3” surface scratch/wear on base. Caithness Glass was established in Scotland in 1961 by the Duke of Portland and a group of local enthusiasts to revive traditional glassmaking crafts in the region. They became internationally renowned for their intricate studio art glass paperweights, combining complex internal cane work and controlled air bubbles with brilliant colour palettes. Each piece was individually crafted by skilled artisans who manipulated molten glass using specialized metal tools and high-temperature furnaces.

These paperweights were placed upon wooden or glass desks in offices and studies to hold loose correspondence and documents in place against drafts. Owners admired the mesmerizing optical illusions created by the magnifying dome of clear glass over the complex internal design. Over time, as paper usage declined in modern workspaces, these decorative objects transitioned from functional desk accessories to cherished display pieces in homes.
