#0077 A Seaburst art glass paperweight made by Selkirk Glass in 1985

Selkirk Glass was an influential studio founded by Peter Holmes in Selkirk, Scotland, during the late 20th century. Skilled artisans produced hand-blown art glass pieces, focusing primarily on decorative paperweights that captured natural Scottish themes. Each piece was individually crafted using traditional glassblowing techniques, incorporating intricate internal designs with colored frits and metallic foils.

These paperweights were utilized mainly on office desks and writing tables to anchor loose documents and correspondence. Owners placed them in well-lit studies or parlours where light could pass through the clear dome to illuminate the suspended colours within. Over time, handcrafted glass objects shifted from purely functional desk accessories into highly prized decorative display items collected worldwide.
